Shades of Scheherazade Challenge "Samira"
“Shades of Scheherazade” is the Etsy Beadweavers April 2013 Challenge. Imagine the tales from One Thousand and One Nights told tantalizingly by Scheherazade by firelight. I've created this bead embroidered collar specifically for this challenge. And to make it all the more exciting, Samira has already been sold!
I've named this collar "Samira" from the Arabic, meaning "Entertainer." Samira contributes sensitive, creative, and idealistic qualities that could be expressed in a variety of literary or artistic fields. I envision an exotic beauty wearing this collar while dancing and telling ancient tales of fascination and passion to her spellbound audience.
The details: This collar is hand beaded by me! Its arabesque shape is completely encrusted with seed beads, pearls and crystals using a variety of bead weaving and bead embroidery techniques. Seed beads include bright gold, bright copper, lined topaz hex delicas, and gold hex twist. Swarovski Elements pearls in light gold and crystals in crystal copper are used throughout. Two Swarovski Elements rivolis in volcano, a crystal button and a dozen volcano Marguerites embellish the collar with one large tangerine colored crystal bead in a peyote bezel in the center. 150 tiny gold coins make up the fringe accented by a couple topaz rainbow Czech glass drops in the center. The necklace is completed with a flat spiral "chain" featuring Czech glass pearls and amber seed beads with a peyote loop and toggle closure.
Necklace length around the neck is 20". The center portion of the necklace is 9" across and 5" deep in the middle including the drop beads. The centerpiece is backed by felt in a leopard print.
